Big Brothers Big Sisters of the 7 Rivers Region recognizes the power of social networks and strives to be a leader in local collaboration. In April 2015, Big Brothers Big Sisters united a variety of youth, family, and community service agencies and convened the first meeting of the La Crosse Area Mentoring Collaborative. With the mutual goal of positive youth development, our group meets once per month at BBBS headquarters and discusses how we can best collaborate to meet the needs of youth in our community by providing a continuum of care. By working together we are able to better understand the distinctive services each agency offers and, if any agency is unable to meet a child’s needs due to program capacity or the age of the child, we are able to provide reciprocal referral services. In addition, we are currently working to develop a “Mentoring 101” training module that will be accessible to community mentoring volunteers at all service agencies.
